    The Order of San Carlos (Orden de San Carlos) was instituted on August 16, 1954. Since then, it has been modified in three times in total, in 1980, 1986, and 2001.

    It was founded to reward Colombians and foreign, both military and civil personnel, for extraordinary service to Colombia, particularly within the realm of international relations. It is the second-highest award with the country.

    The Order's grade ...  s are Collar, I Class Grand Cross (with gilt breast star), II Class Grand Cross (with silvered breast star), Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.
