History

The National Order of Merit (Orden Nacional al Mérito) was established by decree on November 6, 1981, and was modified in 2001. It was founded to commemorate nationals and foreigners individuals, and institutions, in recognition of extraordinary services to the nation, and for meritorious acts of valor.

The Order consists of Extraordinary Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Silver Cross, Commander, Officer, and Knight.
