History

The National Order of the Republic is conferred upon politicians, members of the government, and Burundian citizens for meritorious service rendered to the nation, as well to ambassadors who have made significant contributions to Burundi. It may be conferred personally by the President upon foreign heads of state or other prominent foreign individuals. It may also be awarded posthumously.

The Grand Collar is awarded t ...  o the President of the Republic upon entry into office. Under exceptional circumstances, it may be awarded to prominent Burundians in absence of any service requirements.
