History
This Order was founded by President Warrant in 1970. It was last awarded in June 1980.
It was conferred upon military and civil personnel in recognition of extraordinary services to Rhodesia.
The Legion of Merit of Rhodesia was replaced by the Zimbabwe Order of Merit in April 1981.
The Grand Commander Breast Star was only worn by Prime Minister Ian Smith and President of Rhodesia, Clifford Dupont.
The only difference between Civil Division and Military Division awards is the colour of the ribbons. Civil Division awards have a green and gold ribbon, while Military Division award ribbons feature an extra red stripe through the centre of the green and gold ribbon.
