History

The Order of the Silver Star of National Merit is conferred upon Malian citizens in recognition of meritorious service. It may also be conferred upon foreigners, but only under exceptional circumstances.

The Silver Medal (with Lion) is awarded in recognition of a particularly meritorious action or contribution in the fields of politics, administration, military leadership, economics, art, or social services.

The obverse inscription translates to "One People, One Goal, One Faith."
