History
This Medal was established by Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1941 during the campaign against the Italian invasion from 1935-1941. It was awarded to Ethiopian and foreign military personnel in recognition of acts of gallantry and meritorious service in defence of Ethiopian independence. It could be awarded multiple times to the same recipient in which case each additional award was denoted by a bronze palm ribbon clasp.
The obverse features an Amharic inscription in Ge’ez script that can be translated to "Haile Selassie the First.”
