History
The Commemorative Medal was established by Decree on December 19, 1996. It is awarded to military personnel of the Burkinabé Army, Air Force, and Gendarmerie for devotion to the nation through military service. It is awarded in recognition of a minimum of 45 days of service in operations for the maintenance of peace and security and may also be awarded posthumously to military personnel who died in combat.
The Order may be awarded with clasps that denote the operation(s) in which the recipient rendered service. The clasps include:
- REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO (Democratic Republic of the Congo)
- CENTRAFRIQUE (Central African Republic)
- BURUNDI
- DIJIBOUTI
- HAITI
- SOUDAN (Sudan)
- NIGER
- TOGO
